PASCAGOULA -- A Pascagoula man accused in an armed home invasion Sunday led police officers on a vehicle chase that ended shortly after an officer trying to stop him fired three rounds at the suspect's vehicle, according to Pascagoula Police Lt. Jim Roe.

Brian McLeod, 42, was taken into custody on charges of felony fleeing, home invasion and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held at the Jackson County jail pending a court hearing Monday afternoon in Pascagoula Municipal Court.

Police launched an investigation after receiving a report of a man armed with a gun who had forced his way into a home on Navaho Street around 9:45 p.m. Sunday, Roe said. Police said the residents were able get out of their home without any injuries.

When police got to the scene, they saw McLeod leaving in a pickup truck and attempted to stop him, Roe said.

McLeod drove off, leading police on a high-speed chase on Cherokee Street before turning onto to Washington Avenue and driving to the west end of the road, where he had to turn around. That's when, police say, McLeod started driving straight for the oncoming patrol car.

The police officer fired three rounds at McLeod's pickup as it sped toward the officer, with one of the bullets striking McLeod's pickup truck. As another police officer approached, McLeod stopped and surrendered.

No one was injured.

The police officer who fired the three rounds at McLeod's pickup truck has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending a review of the shooting, which is standard protocol. The police officer who fired the shots, however, was not identified.

If convicted of all the charges, McLeod could go to prison for up to 40 years.
