2 students in custody after alleged bomb found in Vicksburg junior high
VICKSBURG -- A device was found and two students have been detained following a bomb threat at Warren Junior High School.
Officials said the device has been removed and "rendered safe."
Vicksburg Chief of Police Walter Armstrong said that a suspected bomb was found on the school grounds.
A 13-year-old is in custody, and police have not yet released the age of the second suspect.
"The student brought what was believed to be a homemade IED," Anderson said. "He showed to another student, and that student had the courage to tell school officials, and the school was evacuated immediately."
At that point, the students were evacuated to nearby Vicksburg Junior High School. Armstrong says no one was injured in the process.
According to Armstrong, a bomb-sniffing dog found the device in the library of the school. The FBI is also on scene to assist, according to their spokesman's Twitter account.
The department is investigating to see if others could be involved in the situation. It's too early to tell if there could continue to be more arrests, Armstrong said.
The Vicksburg Police Department received word of the possible threat around noon.
Armstrong says it has not been determined what charges will be pressed.
Clinton Police Department spokesman Josh Frazier confirmed that the Clinton bomb squad is assisting with the investigation.
