GULFPORT -- A Gulfport man accused of robbing and shooting a man several times inside an apartment on Mississippi Avenue has surrendered to authorities, Gulfport Police Sgt. Damon McDaniel said Monday.

Police had been searching for Raheem Tyrese Richardson, 22, after identifying him as the suspect in the assault and shooting Saturday that resulted in the victim suffering multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Richardson turned himself in Sunday and was booked on charges of aggravated assault and armed robbery. He is being held at the Harrison County jail on a $200,000 bond set by Justice Court Judge Melvin Ray.

According to McDaniel, police got a report of the shooting Saturday at 3:11 p.m. When they got there, they found the shooting victim.

Police said Richardson went to the home, fired multiple shots at the victim, stole an unknown amount of money and ran away.

American Medical Response took the victim from the scene to an area hospital for treatment. He remained hospitalized Monday.

Police later identified Richardson as a suspect and asked for the public's help to find him.

The case remains under investigation.

To report information, call the Gulfport Police Department at 868-5959.
