JACKSON COUNTY -- A Vancleave woman accused of setting a bedroom on fire and barricading her husband inside it now faces an additional charge of arson, sheriff's Capt. Chris Stratton said.

Pamela Ruth Salter, 55, was arrested Monday on a charge of aggravated domestic violence after deputies responded to a report of a fire at the couple's home in the 12000 block of Ridgeland Road in Vancleave. Deputies found Michael Salter, 49, who had escaped the room, outside his house telling neighbors he and his wife "had gotten into an argument" and she'd set fire to some clothes in their bedroom and blocked the door with a heavy object.

Deputies found Pamela Salter hiding in the woods behind the couple's home.

She had an initial court appearance Wednesday, where County Court Judge T. Larry Wilson set her bond at a total of $15,000.

Pamela Salter was taken to the Jackson County jail, where she remained early Wednesday evening.

If convicted of both charges, she could go to prison for up to 40 years.

The investigation was continuing Wednesday.
