HARRISON COUNTY -- A Harrison Central High School student was arrested Friday after he brought a unloaded hand gun to school, sheriff's officials said.
Sheriff Melvin Brisolara said school officials were told the 16-year-old had a gun in his possession. He was escorted to the administration office and searched, Brisolara said.
Officials found the gun in his backpack.
"The student stated that the reason he brought the gun to school was due to the recent school shootings around the country, and he wanted to protect himself," Brisolara said.
