Police: Domestic argument led to toddler's stabbing at Jones Park

GULFPORT -- Investigators have determined a mother intentionally stabbed her toddler during an argument with her husband, the child's father, police said.

Gulfport police arrested Nomatter Gava-Hudson, 26, of Biloxi, after a good Samaritan had called police to report a child had been stabbed at Jones Park about 10:53 p.m. Monday.

Investigators have since determined Gava-Hudson became belligerent during an argument with her husband and intentionally stabbed their child multiple times, police Sgt. Damon McDaniel said Wednesday.

The mother was charged with attempted murder

The mother was taken into custody and booked early Tuesday morning. She is held at the Harrison County jail on a $1 million bond set by Justice Court Judge Brandon Ladner.

A man who offered emergency response until police and an ambulance arrived told the Sun Herald the child was cut above its belly-button, on its hip and near its collar bone.

The child was flown to a Mobile hospital.

Police have said the child's injuries were not life-treatening.
