Sheriff names couple in Vancleave homicide

Sheriff Mike Byrd early this morning released the names of a Vancleave couple believed to be involved in a homicide reported Thursday night.

Don Thames, 58, is in custody. His wife, Janet, 60, allegedly had a knife when she was shot multiple times at the couple's home on Tanner Street.

Byrd said the man called the sheriff's office Thursday night to report he had just shot his wife during a domestic dispute.

Deputy David Lawson was the first officer to respond to the call from a home in the 13000 block of Tanner Street. He found the woman lying on the floor in a hallway, Byrd said.

Investigators believe the woman was shot at least three times. The shooting was reported sometime before 8:30 p.m.

The home is on the north end of Tanner Street. The neighborhood is north of Poticaw Bayou Road and east side of Mississippi 57.

Byrd said the man was arrested without incident.
