Police Chief Alan Weatherford today said a man released from prison Friday bit a bus driver and spat on Gulfport police officers, claiming he was infected with Hepatitis C.
Police have arrested John Tad Hinton, 37, on charges including three counts of exposing others to endangerment by bodily substances from a contagious disease.
Hinton had just been released from prison on Friday and was on a Greyhound bus when the incidents occurred, Weatherford said. Hinton was booked at the Harrison County jail early Saturday.
He also is charged with felony malicious mischief. Weatherford said Hinton kicked a patrol car while in the back seat, causing about $900 in damage.
Those involved in the attacks will require testing to see if they were infected, Weatherford said.
Hinton is in custody on bonds of $300,000 set by Justice Court Judge Melvin Ray.
