Coast man arrested after one killed, 2 critically injured in drug-related shooting, police say

One man is in custody on first-degree murder and aggravated assault charges following a shooting Monday night that left one person dead and two others injured in an alleged drug-related crime, according to Gulfport police.

John Gaddis III, 34, of Gulfport, was taken into custody Tuesday on one count of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault. He is jailed in Harrison County on total bond of $2 million.

Gulfport police responded to a report of the shooting at 8:45 p.m. Monday in the 2000 block of 32nd Avenue. At the scene, officers found one person dead and two others shot and injured. The injured were taken to a local hospital, where they are undergoing treatment but are listed in critical condition.

Police determined during the investigation that the shooting happened as a result of an ongoing dispute over drugs involving Gaddis and one of the victims.
