Wild South Mississippi chase ends with arrest of Florida man, host of charges

A Florida man is facing a host of charges after fleeing from Waveland police in his vehicle and on foot.

Harley Leamon, 41, from Tallahassee is accused of speeding, reckless driving, not having liability insurance, resisting arrest, failure to comply with an officer, felony fleeing in a motor vehicle, driving with a suspended license, and possession of a schedule 2 drug.

According to a news release from Waveland Chief of Police Michael Prendergast, Leamon’s Jeep Gladiator was clocked at 44 mph while driving east Tuesday on South Beach Boulevard, where there is a posted 25 mph speed limit. After an officer acrivated his emergency lights and siren, Leamon is accused of performing a U-turn and driving on the walking/biking track along the sand beach area.

According to police, Leamon continued traveling at a high rate of speed on the sand beach near the Garfield Ladner Pier and Terrace Avenue. After driving on the sand for several hundred feet, police say, the Gladiator became stuck in the sand. Leamon is then accused of exiting the vehicle and running from police, who stopped the suspect through the use of a Taser.

Leamon was found to be wanted by the state of Florida on a charge of felony larceny-grand theft.

While searching Leamon’s belongings, 2.87 grams of methamphetameme was located along with THC drops, according to police. Leamon was taken to the Hancock County Jail, where he is being held.
