Two killed in ‘targeted attack’ at Gulfport Walmart identified, police say
Gulfport police are investigating after two people were shot and killed and a third wounded in what appears to be a targeted attack at a Walmart, Gulfport Police Lt. Jason DuCré said.
The shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday near the gas pumps at the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Highway 49 in the Orange Grove community.
One of the victims was undergoing surgery Tuesday afternoon, DuCré said.
Police have detained one person, though it is unclear whether any formal charges have been filed.
Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer said the homicide victims are a man and a woman. He identified the deceased on Tuesday night as Shaquari Jaquasharasha Smith, 29, of Gulfport, and Ontatio Randle, 24, of Moss Point.
Both Smith and Randle died at the scene, and autopsies are pending. Both are believed to have been in the same vehicle at the time of the shooting, Switzer said.
The woman’s body was outside the car when police got there, and Randle was still in the car.
A portion of Smith’s body was just outside the car, Switzer said.
