Two dead, one shot and injured in ‘targeted attack’ at Gulfport Walmart, police say

Gulfport police are investigating after two people were shot and killed, and a third was wounded in what appears to be a targeted attack at Walmart, Gulfport Police Lt. Jason DuCré said.

The shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday near the gas pumps at the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Highway 49 in the Orange Grove community.

One of the victims was undergoing surgery Tuesday afternoon, DuCré said.

Police have detained one person, though it is unclear whether any formal charges have been filed.

Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer said the homicide victims are a man and a woman, and authorities are working to identify them.

The man was found dead inside a car, while the woman was found just outside the vehicle, Switzer said.
