Suspect and second individual hospitalized in Gulfport officer-involved shooting

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting Friday involving the Gulfport Police Department at an apartment complex on Three Rivers Road in Gulfport.

A suspect and a second armed individual were hospitalized after the shooting, and no officers received any serious physical injuries.

According to Gulfport police, officers responded to a call regarding a person in the area with a weapon. Upon arrival, officers located the subject and attempted to detain him at the scene. The subject resisted, fled, and tackled an armed individual. During the encounter, one officer and the armed fired their weapons. The subject was struck and transported to a nearby hospital. The armed individual was also struck and transported to a nearby hospital.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office. This information is preliminary and subject to change.
