Gulfport police officer has resigned and been arrested on prostitution charge
A Gulfport Police Officer has resigned and been arrested on a prostitution charge, Gulfport Police Chief Adam Cooper announced Friday.
Cooper said that the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office notified the Gulfport Police Department on April 25 that Kurwin Smith, an off-duty Gulfport Police Officer, had been identified as a possible suspect in a prostitution solicitation investigation.
Upon learning of the allegations, Smith was immediately removed from all enforcement duties, Cooper said. Smith has since resigned from his position and is no longer employed by the department. Smith was arrested Friday and charged with procuring prostitution.
“Every day, I am overwhelmingly proud of the men and women of the Gulfport Police Department,” Cooper said. “We remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and accountability, and we expect all personnel to uphold the law both on and off duty.
