South MS man accused of dozens of death threats against Sen. Wicker, his family
A Mississippi Coast man arrested on a federal charge is accused of threatening to kill U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker and his family in voicemails left at the senator’s Washington, D.C., office, according to a federal criminal complaint.
The defendant, identified as Jason Allen, a resident of the Hurley community in Jackson County, also is accused of threatening to blow up Tupelo First Baptist Church and burn down Wicker’s Washington office.
According to FBI agent Jason Dufault, Allen made more than 100 calls to Wicker’s office between April 13 and April 21, leaving profanity-laced voicemails that escalated to threats against Wicker’s children and other relatives.
Federal agents arrested Allen on a criminal complaint charging him with using a communication system — in this case, a phone — to transmit threats to harm or injure someone across state lines.
Allen is being held without bond pending a preliminary detention hearing in federal court in Gulfport.
The profanity-laced threats
According to the FBI agent, Allen left repeated voicemails over several days.
On April 13, Allen left 19 threatening messages at Wicker’s Washington, D.C., office within a 20-minute period.
On April 20, the office received 65 more threatening messages during daytime hours, followed by another 90 after hours that same day.
Below are examples of the threats:
- In an April 20 message left at 10:51 a.m., Allen left this message: “Yeah, I think I’m gonna blow up Tupelo First Baptist, isn’t that where your stupid (expletive) sings in the choir and (expletive)? Just kill as many you (expletive) little nepo babies? ... I don’t think you believe in Jesus. I think y’all a bunch of (expletive) cosplaying paper hiding (expletive). “I need to kill your (expletive) children because y’all are evil. I think that’s the only way democracy ever starts to work in is if I kill you, zombified (expletive).”
- In an April 21 message at 8:47 a.m., Allen said: “I’m gonna burn your (expletive) office down and kill everybody and that (expletive), too, you evil (expletive) Nazi ...”
- In another April 21 message, Allen said, “I’m gonna come kill you and your entire (expletive) family. ... I’m gonna blow your (expletive) house up, (expletive), and your office building.”
Allen is set to go back to court for preliminary detention hearing on May 11 in federal court in Gulfport.
“Sen. Wicker appreciates the work of our dedicated law enforcement officials to ensure the safety of all citizens, including public officials,” a spokesman for Sen. Wicker said. “Threatening words must be taken seriously.”
