Florida deputy arrested in Ocean Springs DUI, hit-and-run crash

Ocean Springs police arrested an off-duty deputy from Santa Rosa County, Florida, over the weekend on misdemeanor charges of hit-and-run and driving under the influence, Police Chief Steven Dye said.

Jessica Harrison was taken into custody a short time after officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle hit-and-run crash Sunday night.

“She struck a sign on Porter Avenue just off U.S. 90,” Dye said.

Harrison was driving an unmarked patrol car at the time of the crash. She was arrested after officers located the vehicle stopped on Front Beach near the Ocean Springs Yacht Club.

A witness reported the incident, Dye said.

According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, Harrison has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation. She has been a deputy at the Sheriff’s Office since 2013.

The sheriff’s office said Harrison was in town attending law enforcement training in Harrison County.
