Ex-treasurer of South MS homeowner’s association faces embezzlement charge

The former treasurer of the homeowner’s association for Harbor Landing Apartments is out of jail on bond following his arrest on a felony charge of embezzlement, according to records filed in the case.

Kevin Lavon Nailer, 55, was taken into custody on Feb. 11 following an investigation that began members of the homeowner association reported the alleged theft.

According to an incident report from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Nailer is accused of using at least $3,000 in homeowner fees to pay for gift cards and propane tanks at Lowe’s. Nailer is out of jail on a $1,500 bond.

Felony embezzlement involving the theft of between $1,000 and $5,000 carries a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison, a $5,000 fine, or both.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the case.
