Suspect arrested and identified after MS Coast standoff, authorities say

Authorities arrested a man accused of barricading himself and holding a relative hostage on Monday inside a home in Gulf Park Estates, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department said.

Deputies responded at 2:46 p.m. to 9228 Barnacle Boulevard and found a man had taken a woman hostage, according to a news release. The release said the man was “threatening bodily harm to her.”

The suspect, 47-year-old Jeffrey Lynn Nelson, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence by aggravated assault and kidnapping. Authorities said he would be jailed without bond pending an initial court appearance.

Negotiators at the scene began talking with the suspect, according to the news release, but entered the bedroom and arrested him after he did not surrender.

No injuries were reported.
