Update: 13-year-old arrested, accused of shooting South MS teen, authorities say

A 13-year-old was arrested Monday on suspicion of shooting another teenager in Picayune, authorities said.

Police Chief Joe Quave said a 16-year-old was shot around 1:54 p.m. on Lewis Circle. The teenager was hospitalized with a single gunshot wound that “does not appear to be life-threatening,” Quave said.

The 13-year-old suspect, who authorities did not name, was wanted on an aggravated assault charge and turned himself in to police on Monday evening. Quave said the teenager would be charged as an adult.

Police said the victim and suspect fired “multiple rounds.” Authorities believe the suspect fired first.

The shooting is under investigation.
