  • Federal judge sentences IT specialist to life plus 58 years for child sex assaults.
  • Authorities found 100,000 images and videos of abuse on Sean Parol’s electronic devices.
  • Parol used alcohol, vapes and threats to lure and silence multiple young victims.

U.S. District Judge Sul Ozerden called the crimes that child predator Sean Christopher Parol committed for years some of the most “serious and egregious conduct that exists in today’s society.”

Ozerden on Thursday described the child exploitation and child sexual assault case against Parol as the single most egregious criminal case he has handled during his tenure in federal court in Gulfport. The judge sentenced the IT specialist to life in prison plus 58 years for his crimes.

The judge described Parol’s years-long operation deliberate and sophisticated.

Investigators found he had installed hidden cameras throughout his home to record the sexual assaults, even placing a camera in his bathroom and a tripod in his bedroom to film the attacks and share them online.

To entice the boys, he gave them alcohol and vapes in exchange for sex.

Though Parol apologized for his crimes, the judge and crowd gathered in federal court for Parol’s sentencing shared no sympathy for the criminal.

Prior to sentencing, Assistant U.S. Attorney Lee Smith talked about how anyone with children knows that parents spend so much time with their young children reassuring them that there are no monsters in their rooms or lurking under their beds so they rest well at night.

But, Smith said, “these young victims met a real-life monster” in Parol.

Smith urged the judge to impose a life sentence plus additional consecutive terms to end what he called “the nightmare” for the children and their families. He noted authorities discovered nearly 100,000 images and videos of child sexual abuse on Parol’s devices.

He also pointed out how Parol kept his crimes secret because of his repeated warning to the young boys that they would get in trouble if they reported the attacks.

Smith called the crimes “heinous” and said Parol planned them over a period of years.

“I watched these videos,” Smith told the judge. “I saw the defendant look straight into these videos, and he showed no remorse.”

“All of a sudden,” he said, Parol is remorseful when, in reality, he is nothing more than someone who “immersed himself in the world of child pornography.”

Despite the suffering inflicted, Smith praised the courage of the young victims who reported the crimes, knowing they could have been forced to face their attacker in a trial.

“These are real children with real dreams and aspirations,” Smith said. “I can’t imagine a 9- or 10-year-old living through that, and it pales in comparison to the lifetime of pain inflicted on them and their families.”

Parol had been charged in a 21-count indictment with two counts of attempt to coerce and entice a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct, 17 counts of production of images and videos of children engaged in sexually explicit acts and two counts of possession of any visual depiction of minors engaged in sexual activity.

He pleaded guilty to one count of attempt to coerce and entice a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct, one count of production of images and videos of children engaged in sexually-explicit conduct and one count of possession of any visual depiction of a minor engaged in sexual activity.

D’Iberville police and federal authorities investigated the case.
