A George County sheriff’s deputy is on administrative leave following his arrest for drunk driving in the city of Lucedale, Sheriff Mitchell Mixon announced Friday.

Deputy Braxton Keebler, 22, was off-duty when he was arrested without incident Thursday night. He is charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence. After his arrest, Keebler was jailed in Greene County.

The arrest occurred after Lucedale police officers stopped Keebler and determined that he was impaired, the sheriff said. Keebler was off duty at the time.

Sheriff Mixon announced the arrest on social media, saying he wanted to maintain transparency with residents

Keebler will remain on administrative leave pending the outcome of a internal and criminal investigation.

“We remain committed to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity,” Mixon said. “No one is above the law, and we believe transparency is essential to maintaining the trust of the community we serve.”

The sheriff thanked the Lucedale Police Department for their “professionalism” and “continued support of our community.”
