Coroner IDs MS Coast man who police say died after high-speed chase in stolen car

A 19-year-old who police say fled from officers through D’Iberville and Biloxi died Sunday when he crashed in a stolen car, authorities said.

Police chased the driver into Biloxi, where he collided with another car around 5:15 p.m. near Popp’s Ferry and Cedar Lake roads, said Lt. Candace Young, a spokesperson for Biloxi police.

The driver, Tyler Harris of Biloxi, died at the scene, Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer said.

The chase began when a D’Iberville officer saw the stolen white Hyundai and tried to stop the driver, Switzer said. The car, which police said had been reported stolen from Biloxi Sunday morning, fled until it crashed into a truck turning onto Cedar Lake Road.

The Hyundai rolled through the air until it landed in a bank parking lot at the intersection, Switzer said. Two people in the truck were not seriously hurt. Authorities also said a passenger in the stolen car was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
