Coroner identifies MS Coast victim killed in shooting, car crash

Two suspects accused of shooting into a car on Friday night in D’Iberville were arrested after the driver died and the car crashed into a home, police said.

Lazavious Young, 34, of Gulfport, died of a gunshot wound, Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer said.

Officers who responded to reports of gunshots around 10 p.m. Friday near Octave Street and Dina Drive found a damaged car had hit a home and stopped in a neighbor’s yard, the police department said in a news release.

Police found Young dead in the driver’s seat.

Authorities arrested two suspects: Amonte Daquan Robinson, 20, of St. Martin, and Jaleyn Rayshawn Fielder, 17, of D’Iberville. Officers found Robinson and Fielder in the backyard of a nearby home after witnesses told police they saw two people running from the crash, according to the news release.

The suspects face charges of first-degree murder, armed robbery and shooting into a motor vehicle, with total bonds of $1.15 million.

D’Iberville Police Chief Marty Griffin said Fielder will be charged as an adult. He declined to release details on the armed robbery charges.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to call the D’Iberville Police Department at 228-396-4252 or Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898.
