Gautier police say they are searching for an Ocean Springs woman accused of embezzling up to $15,000 from the Gautier Middle School Booster Club.

Nicaela Salter-Chapman, 39, allegedly committed the crime between Aug. 1, 2023, and Oct. 31, 2024, while serving as treasurer of the basketball booster club, Police Chief David Bever said.

“We actually gave her an opportunity to turn herself in,” Bever said. “She was supposed to turn herself in at 3 p.m. yesterday, and she kept making promises to do so.”

The police chief said officers even warned Salter-Chapman that police “were going to put her on social media and make her famous if she didn’t turn herself in. She still has refused to cooperate.”

Police began an investigation after an audit of the booster club account revealed that Salter-Chapman had been sending money to her personal bank account via her digital Cash App wallet.
