Late-night standoff ends with man dead in South Mississippi. Here’s what we know
A man who authorities say fired shots at deputies then barricaded himself in a shed for several hours died late Wednesday, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office said.
The incident began at 6 p.m. when deputies went to a property on Turan Road in Saucier on a court order, said Hanna Hendry, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.
Hendry said just after 10:30 p.m. that the suspect, who authorities have not named, was dead. She declined to provide more information but said the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation would take over the case. The agency investigates all officer-involved shootings in the state.
Hendry also declined to answer questions about the nature of the court order but said the suspect had been barricaded alone and that no one else was injured.
The rural stretch of Turan Road was blocked between Highway 67 and Saucier-Fairley Road during the four hour standoff.
