‘Armed and dangerous’ suspect captured after killing at South MS Azteca’s

A 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection to a shooting that killed one person this week outside Azteca’s Restaurant & Cantina in Gulfport, police said.

Jordan Tyrik Johnson was taken into custody at 9:30 p.m. Friday on one count of first-degree murder, according to Gulfport Police Lt. Jason DuCre.

Officers went to the restaurant at 9:36 p.m. Monday after a report of fighting, DuCre said. Police were moving an over-capacity crowd out of the restaurant when officers heard gunshots in the parking lot, he said.

Police said Friday that Johnson allegedly argued with the victim before pulling out a gun. Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer said the shooting killed Christopher Skinner, 34, of Gulfport. He died of multiple gunshot wounds at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, Switzer said.

Police identified Jordan Tyrik Johnson, 25, as the suspect in a Cinco de Mayo shooting that killed one person outside Azteca’s Restaurant & Cantina in Gulfport.

DuCre estimated 300 to 400 people were at the restaurant on Highway 49 during a Cinco de Mayo celebration Monday night. Authorities said restaurant security tried to de-escalate the fight before the shooting.

Johnson left the parking lot with a fleeing crowd as officers searched for the victim, DuCre said.

Police described Johnson as 5 foot 11 inches and 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Police also said he “should be considered armed and dangerous.”

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the Gulfport Police Department at 228-868-5959 or Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898.
