MS Coast student in custody after gun found in backpack, school district says
A Gulfport High School student is in custody after administrators searched the student’s backpack on Friday and found a gun, the district said.
The Gulfport School District said its leaders learned of the incident when they arrived at school. The school notified its resource officers and said the student was taken into custody and removed from campus “without incident.”
“We want to assure you that at no time were any students or staff in danger, and no threats were made in connection with this incident,” the district said in a statement. “The situation was handled swiftly and safely thanks to the professionalism of our staff and the rapid response of our resource officers.”
This is a developing story and will be updated.
