Community’s help sought for victims of deadly South Mississippi church shooting

Two GoFundMe accounts are raising funds to cover expenses from a weekend shooting at a church event that killed the church’s security guard and critically injured another parishioner.

The GoFundMe accounts are set up to benefit the family of Empowerment Ministries Christian Center’s slain deacon and security guard, Eddie Shed, 29, of McHenry, and the church’s injured parishioner, Jimmy Nance.

The group hopes to raise $25,000 to help Shed’s family, which includes his wife, Doris, and their three children. So far, the account has raised just under $6,000.

The goal for Nance’s family is $10,000 to help with ongoing medical treatments and rehabilitation, as well as to aid in their everyday expenses during the road to recovery.

Both Shed and Nance sustained multiple gunshot wounds when they tried to help a domestic violence victim after a church-sponsored Easter egg hunt. The shooting happened at Goldin Sports Complex on Prudie Circle around 2 p.m. Saturday.

Shed died at the scene. Nance remains hospitalized at an out-of-state hospital.

“Jimmy’s injuries are severe and will require several months of healing,” the GoFundMe for Nance said. “This journey is not only physically demanding but also emotionally taxing for him and his loved ones.”

Empowerment Ministries Christian Center pastor, the Rev. Gregg S. Magee, praised Shed for his actions during a service Sunday and asked for continued prayers for both families.

Gulfport police have arrested 24-year-old Tyran Deion Gable, of Saucier, in the shooting. He remains jailed in Harrison County on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault.
