3 arrested, 3 wanted after South MS man who tried to break up fight dies, police say
A man from Moss Point died Saturday after he tried to break up a large fight and was hit by a car, authorities said.
Moss Point Police Chief Brandon Ashley said this week officers had arrested three suspects in connection to what police called an “altercation” on Lilly Circle. He said a “large crowd” gathered Saturday afternoon after a group of women started fighting.
Police said Demond Tayveion Ross, 23, was beaten as he tried to break up the fight. Another assault victim allegedly hit Ross while trying to drive away. His death is being investigated as a homicide.
On Friday, police announced upgraded charges for three suspects: Roy Reeves Jr., 26; Rubby Reeves, 45; and Daniel Kidwell, 29. All are facing second-degree murder charges and are being held without bond in the Jackson County jail.
Police said they are also searching for three additional suspects wanted in connection to Ross’ death. Those suspects are Kezwick Webb, 34, Marcus Jackson Jr., 24, and Gabriel Turk-Magee, 23. All are wanted on charges of second-degree murder.
Another person named as a suspect in the police department’s initial news release was not named in Friday’s news release announcing the second degree murder charges and is not in the Jackson County jail, according to jail records. Ashley did not immediately respond to a question about whether the person’s charges have been dropped.
Jackson County Coroner Bruce Lynd Jr. said Tuesday that an autopsy was complete and that Ross died from blunt force injuries. But he said it was still unclear if the injuries stemmed from an assault, being hit by a car, or both.
Police did not say what led to the fight or how many people were involved.
