3 arrested after MS Coast deputies seize rifles, 88 pounds of marijuana, police say

Harrison County sheriff’s deputies seized 88 pounds of marijuana valued at tens of thousands of dollars and made three arrests in what started as a traffic stop but ended in an additional search of a home in Biloxi, Harrison County Sheriff Matt Hale said in a news release.

The arrests occurred after deputies conducted a traffic stop on Shriners Boulevard of a Dodge Charger occupied by the defendants, identified as Terence Benard Benjamin, 26; Isiah James Smith, 24; and Marvin Bryan Brumfield.

Inside the car, deputies found a small amount of marijuana, prompting authorities to conduct a probable cause search of the car. In the trunk, a release said deputies found 70 pounds of bulk marijuana and a handgun.

After that seizure, deputies acting on information they collected at the traffic stop got a warrant to search a home in the 2000 block of Trailwood Drive in Biloxi. There, the release said, deputies found an additional 18 pounds of marijuana, three rifles and drug paraphernalia.

All three suspects are jailed on a felony charge of trafficking a controlled substance with their bonds set by Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain at a total of $250,000 each.

Felony trafficking of a controlled substance carries a maximum prison term of up to 40 years in prison and up to $1 million fine.
