Man, woman left hospitalized after domestic disturbance involving 3 people in South MS

Three people were involved in a domestic disturbance on Friday in Hancock County that left a man and woman hospitalized, authorities said.

Hancock County Sheriff’s deputies were called at 5:04 p.m. Friday to the 24000 block of Road 347, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Deputies found a man and woman suffering gunshot wounds. The woman had also been run over by a car, the news release said.

The circumstances of the incident are unclear.

Hancock County Sheriff’s Office Cmdr. Kris Robbins said the incident involved two men and one woman. He confirmed one of the men involved in the incident is employed by the Hancock County School District.

Chayna Adams, public relations director for the district, said she could not share information about what role the man holds in Hancock County schools.

The school district said in a statement to staff and parents that it “is aware of an unfortunate event involving one of our employees this weekend.”

“Be assured that appropriate action will be taken by the District and the employee will not be on campus while our investigation is ongoing,” the statement said. “Since this, however, is a law enforcement and personnel matter, we cannot comment further. The safety and wellbeing of every child in the District is our top priority.”

Authorities made no arrests by Monday afternoon. Robbins said law enforcement is still determining who should be charged in the altercation. The school district employee has not been charged with any crime. Robbins said he is a “person of interest.”

The school district employee suffered minor injuries in the incident but refused medical treatment, according to Robbins.

The other man and the woman were both hospitalized. Robbins said the man had been released from Singing River Hospital by Monday. The woman was hospitalized in stable condition.

Robbins said authorities expect to release more information later this week. He declined to answer more detailed questions on Monday.
