A dozen people cashed counterfeit savings bonds on the MS Coast. Authorities caught on
In a 35-count indictment handed down in Mississippi in July, 14 people are charged with a bank fraud conspiracy involving thousands of dollars in counterfeit savings bonds cashed at financial institutions in seven cities.
Casey Aron Dixon, an Alabama resident, has been indicted on one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, a felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines.
Thirteen others are indicted on additional federal charges of uttering counterfeit obligations for allegedly attempting to cash or cash the fraudulent savings bonds at different financial institutions in Biloxi, Gulfport, Ocean Springs, D’Iberville, Wiggins, Gautier, and Hattiesburg.
