Update: One in custody after shooting on Interstate 10 in South Mississippi, police say
One suspect is in custody after a shooting on Interstate 10 in Jackson County left one person injured and closed all eastbound lanes Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation said Thursday that two suspects were in custody. On Friday, the agency said only one remained in custody.
Anthony Smith Clark, 32, faces one count of drive-by shooting in connection to the incident, said Bailey Martin, the press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. Clark is held in the Jackson County jail without bond, according to the jail docket.
“Clark is the only subject in custody at this time in relation to this incident,” Bailey said in a statement. MBI did not immediately respond to a question about whether the agency had dropped charges against a second individual involved.
Shots were fired during an altercation between two cars about 4 p.m. Wednesday, Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Landon Orozco said. The incident occurred on I-10 between Exit 50 and 57, according to Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter.
Martin said one person suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the “alleged ‘road rage incident.’”
The Mississippi Department of Transportation said a crash just after 4 p.m. Wednesday on I-10 at Exit 57 had blocked all eastbound lanes. An MDOT traffic map showed backups at 5 p.m. Wednesday in eastbound and westbound lanes near Gulf Hills. All lanes reopened Wednesday night.
MBI is investigating the incident.
“Due to this being an open and ongoing investigation, no further comment will be made,” Martin said Friday.
