Drive-by shootout involving teens one of four shootings in 24 hours, Gulfport police say
Gulfport Police arrested six suspects and responded to four separate shootings within 24 hours that police said left a 16-year-old dead, two victims injured, and cars, residences and even a detective’s vehicle hit with gunfire.
It is unclear if any of the shootings are connected, Gulfport Police Lt. Jason Ducre said.
Gulfport Police arrested four juvenile suspects after a drive-by shooting Monday evening hit several cars — including an unmarked detective’s vehicle — with gunfire, police said.
Police said they also arrested two suspects in another shooting that struck a car with gunfire early Tuesday in the 100 block of Faust Drive.
Authorities made no arrests in two more cases — one that killed a 16-year-old in the 100 block of Darby Street and another that left two victims with gunshot wounds in the 3300 block of 39th Avenue.
Teenagers arrested after drive-by shootout
Police responded about 5:30 p.m. Monday to the 1300 block of Dedeaux Road where they said a 17-year-old and 16-year-old exchanged gunfire in the parking lot of a Big Boy Store.
No one was injured, police said.
Four suspects exchanged gunfire again before fleeing the scene, police said.
Police charged a 17-year-old with four counts of drive-by-shooting, another 17-year-old with four counts of drive-by shooting and one count of aggravated assault, a third 17-year-old with three counts of drive-by shooting and a 16-year-old with three counts of drive-by shooting and one count of aggravated assault.
Detectives in the area witnessed part of the shooting, police said, and the gunfire also hit an unmarked detective’s vehicle.
Detectives pursued one car, identified another vehicle and arrested two 17-year-olds after a “brief low-speed chase,” police said.
Police said they arrested another 17-year-old and a 16-year-old at a nearby residence.
The four juvenile suspects were transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center with bonds set between $750,000 and $1,250,000, police said.
Two arrested, another vehicle hit by gunfire
Authorities arrested two suspects and charged them with aggravated assault after officers found another vehicle struck multiple times by gunfire in Gulfport, police said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.
Gulfport Police responded about 1:27 a.m. Tuesday to a shooting in the 100 block of Faust Drive, according to the release.
An investigation found a “verbal altercation” between suspects and victims led to gunfire, police said.
Police arrested Traevone Bailey, 20, and Rashann Thomas, 31, at a traffic stop, according to the release. Both face two counts of aggravated assault.
Bailey and Thomas were transported to the Harrison County jail and held on $500,000 bonds.
Two struck by gunfire Monday night at apartment complex, police say
Two people were hit by gunfire Monday night at an apartment complex in the 3300 block of 39th Avenue, police said.
Those victims were “very uncooperative” and police have no leads, Ducre said Tuesday morning.
The extent of the injuries is unclear. Authorities released no further information on the case.
16-year-old dies after Gulfport shooting
A 16-year-old died Monday after a shooting in the 100 block of Darby Street, police said.

Police responded to the scene at 1:28 a.m. Monday and found Brown suffering from the gunshot wound, according to a news release.
Police have made no arrests in that case, Ducre said Tuesday morning.
