A man was charged Tuesday with assault after kicking a D’Iberville police officer while resisting arrest.

The incident happened Saturday at 3545 Sangani Blvd. after the business at that location reported the man for trespassing and disturbance of a business.

From a description provided by employees, officers located the suspect, Justin Vuyovich, 43, nearby and attempted to take him into custody, but he resisted.

“As officers attempted to gain control of him, Vuyovich began to become more combative, which resulted in him kicking the officer several times in the chest,” D’Iberville Police Chief Shannon Nobles said in a press release.

With the help of additional officers, D’Iberville Police took Vuyovich into custody. He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and had outstanding warrants from D’Iberville.

Vuyovich was taken to the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility where he was charged with one felony count of simple assault on a police officer, outstanding warrants and several misdemeanor offenses. He is being held on $100,000 bond.
