Gulfport man charged with 7 counts of identity theft & $4,000 in credit card fraud
A Gulfport man was charged Tuesday with credit card fraud after he was seen on Kohl’s surveillance charging $4,000 to a woman’s credit card account, police said.
The victim reported the fraudulent charges to the D’Iberville Police Department on April 12. When investigators reviewed store footage, they identified Michael Reginald Payne, 44, who was wanted for credit card fraud and parole violation in Biloxi.
The following day, officers located Payne leaving the Kohl’s store at 3901 Promenade Parkway in D’Iberville.
When Payne was arrested, he had a controlled substance in his possession, which earned him another charge, according to police.
A stack of notebooks in Payne’s possession also led to charges. The notebooks contained personal identification information for several other victims who had reported identity theft to the D’Iberville Police Department. The notebooks added seven counts of identity theft to Payne’s list of charges.
Payne was booked into the Harrison County Adult Detention Center and charged with credit card fraud with a $50,000 bond; possession of a controlled substance with a $10,000 bond, and seven counts of identity theft with a $100,000 bond for each.
