Two dead, multiple injured in two overnight shootings in Biloxi and Gulfport

Two shootings occurred overnight in Gulfport and Biloxi, police in the Mississippi Coast cities said Saturday morning, claiming two lives.

Two 15-year-old boys were arrested, each on a manslaughter charge, after Alexis McLaurin was killed by a gunshot in the 400 block of Kahler Street, Gulfport police Sgt. Jason Ducré said.

The shooting in the Bayou View neighborhood occurred just before 1 a.m. Police say the two suspects were improperty handling a gun when it went off, the gunshot killing McLaurin, who was 19.

In Biloxi, multiple people were wounded and one person is dead after a shooting in the 200 Block of McDonnell Avenue, which is about a block away from the beach.

There is an apartment complex in that area, but police have not yet given the exact location of the crime. Biloxi police Capt. Grandver Everett said police were called to area at 1:21 a.m.

One of the victims was taken to an out-of-state hospital for treatment of serious injuries, Everett said.

Investigators are still working to develop leads, identify a suspect or suspects and determine what led to the shooting.
