MBI investigating fatal shooting involving Harrison County deputies

Deputies from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department shot and killed a person Thursday night, officials said.

According to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the Sheriff’s Department was called to a burglary in progress about 9 p.m. on Mississippi 53 in Gulfport.

Upon arrival, a suspect pointed a weapon at the responding officers. That suspect then received fatal injuries.

No deputies were harmed in the shooting.

MBI has launched an investigation and their agents are at the scene gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.

No further details about the shooting were available Thursday night.
