Coroner IDs man killed in Gautier shooting, police name wanted suspect
The victim of a shooting at a gas station in Gautier Monday has been identified along with the suspect in the fatal shooting.
Maurice Shannon, 21, of Gautier died after being shot, said Jackson County Coroner Bruce Lynd Jr.
An autopsy is scheduled for later this week, the coroner said.
Gautier Police on Tuesday identified the suspect in the case as Thomas Rogers, also known as Woody Rogers and said in a social media post the suspect is wanted for murder.
He should be considered armed and dangerous, police said in a press release, and anyone who sees him should call 911.
Rogers is from the Mobile area, police said, and they believe he fled back to Mobile after the shooting.
He was last seen riding in a white 2019 Honda Accord with Alabama Wildlife Federation Tag: A0R4TM.
Police described him as a Black male, 5’10” tall, weighing 155 pounds and and with multiple tattoos on his body.
The shooting happened around 3:20 p.m. at the Pure gas station, 2218 Ladnier Road and the victim died before Gautier police officers arrived on scene.
