Woman who killed two Bay St. Louis police officers at Motel 6 suspected of killing herself

Two Bay St. Louis police officers were killed in the line of duty Wednesday morning in a shooting at Motel 6 on Highway 90, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation confirmed.

The MBI said Bay St. Louis police got a call for service at the motel, which is near Wendy’s, Waffle House and Ochsner Medical Center in Hancock County, at 4:30 a.m.

Officers encountered a female subject, identified as Amy Anderson, 43, of Ocean Springs, who shot both officers, MBI said. Anderson is suspected of then killing herself.

One officer died at the scene, and the other died a short time later.

MBI said in a press release Wednesday afternoon that the officers had a nearly 30-minute interaction with Anderson, during which time Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services was called. Anderson fired a gun from inside the vehicle, striking both officers.

Sgt. Steven Robin died at the scene and Officer Branden Estorffe died from his injuries a short time later, the report said. Anderson died at the scene as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Crime scene tape blocked the entire motel Wednesday morning and multiple police agencies were at the scene.

The investigation was centered around a Toyota SUV and a Bay St. Louis police car parked outside of two hotel rooms on the first floor of Motel 6. The MBI was gathering evidence and taking photos inside of both vehicles.

Edmond Fahey Funeral Home arrived on scene at 7:30 a.m. and left by 9 a.m. Another body was removed from the area near the SUV by authorities around 9:30 a.m.

WLOX-TV reported the body of one police officer was taken from Ochsner Medical Center in Bay St. Louis, which is across the street from the hotel. The casket was covered with an American flag.

Bay St. Louis Police Chief Toby Schwartz identified the fallen officers.
