Victim identified after suspect in Coast homicide rammed two patrol cars, sheriff says
A man accused of killing another in Saucier on Thursday rammed two sheriff’s patrol cars during a chase and was apprehended by a K9 officer, Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson said in a press release .
Deputies responded to 2173 East Adams Road in reference to a shooting and found the victim in the front yard dead of multiple gunshot wounds.
He is identified as Hugh Polk, 85, from Saucier. Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer said he died from the gunshot wounds and an autopsy will be conducted Monday.
Deputies spotted the suspect, Jacob Matthew McDonough, heading south on the street while they headed north to find the victim.
They attempted to turn McDonough around and he rammed both vehicles Peterson said. Deputies chased the suspect to Frontage Road in Saucier.
A K9 officer apprehended McDonough after the vehicle came to a stop, and he was taken to Memorial Hospital at Gulfport for treatment of dog bites before being transported to the Harrison County jail. He is held on a felony charge of murder and two felony charges of assault on a police officer.
Justice Court Judge Diane Lander set McDonough’s bond at $1.5 million.
