Mississippi mom made fake child kidnapping claim that triggered AMBER alert, police say
A Gulfport mother was arrested Thursday after her fake kidnapping claim triggered an AMBER Alert and search for her child, police said.
Gulfport police responded to 3600 block of Jody Nelson Road about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday after a kidnapping call was made by 43-year-old Valerie Faye Lord, according to a press release.
Lord allegedly told police a suspect forced their way into her apartment and removed her child from her hands and fled.
“The incident triggered an AMBER Alert and caused a multiple agency search for the child,” Gulfport police Sgt. Jason Ducré said in a press release.
But Lord made false statements to police and the child was never kidnapped, Ducré said.
Lord faces a charge of filing a false police report.
Gulfport police said the Jackson County sheriff’s department and the community helped officers safely locate the child.
