A Gulfport police detective is on personal leave after being arrested on a DUI charge by Mississippi Highway Patrol early Wednesday morning.

MHP went to Mississippi 605 and Mississippi 67 in Harrison County about 3 a.m. in response to a vehicle that left the highway.

Troopers on the scene conducted a sobriety test on Gulfport Det. Manuel Santos and charged him with DUI under the influence of alcohol, according to a press release from Gulfport police.

Santos was not on duty but in his city-issued vehicle at the time of his arrest, the city of Gulfport said in the release.
