Human remains found following Sunday house fire in Gautier
State and local officials are working to identify human remains found following a fire Sunday morning in Gautier.
The Gautier police and fire departments were alerted to a structure fire at 2:29 a.m. Sunday. The building is at 1409 U.S. 90, on the south side of the highway, west of Gautier Elementary School.
The remains were discovered after the fire was extinguished and have not been identified. They will be sent for an autopsy to determine a cause of death and help identify the person, the city said in a press release.
The State Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire.
