Child dies after gun discharged while 13-year-old was playing with it, Biloxi police say

As 13-year-old has been arrested on a manslaughter charge after the gun he was playing with discharged and killed a “male under the age of 18,” Biloxi police said.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at Covenant Square Drive just before 4 p.m. Sunday, Maj. Christopher De Back said in a press release. The officers were directed to an apartment, where they found a dead boy who appeared to have been shot.

De Back said investigators determined the boy was hanging out at the apartment with friends. A 13-year-old boy “began playing with a gun” and “while showing the gun off and pointing it at people, the firearm was discharged and the victim was struck.”

The 13-year-old is being charged as an adult, and his bond was set at $250,000 by Justice Court Judge Nick Patano.

After being booked in, the boy was transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center.
