Florida couple accused of shooting at Biloxi police during car chase, police say
A Pensacola, Fla., couple arrested Friday were in stolen car when one of them fired at Biloxi police during a vehicle pursuit on Interstate 10 in Harrison County, according to a release from the Biloxi Police Department.
The vehicle chase began after police tried to stop the couple, identified as Willie George Byrd, 23, and Ashley Leann Hurd, 20, at the Cedar Lake Road exit.
During the chase that followed, police said, Byrd pulled out a gun and fired in the direction of officers.
The pursuit ended near the Alabama state line, where the couple jumped out of the car and ran. They were taken into a custody a short time later, the release said.
Both were arrested on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and possession of stolen property.
Byrd was arrested on an additional charge of felony eluding.
Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain set Hurd’s bond at a total of $40,000.
The judge set Byrd’s bond at a total of $400,000. Byrd is also wanted on a Florida fugitive warrant, the release said.
No injuries were reported.
