Moss Point man found dead a day after celebrating his 27th birthday, coroner says

An autopsy will determine whether a man found dead in a Moss Point hotel room on July 17 died of natural causes or was the victim of a homicide, Jackson County Coroner Bruce Lynd Jr. said.

Johnathan Powe had celebrated his 27th birthday the day before a housekeeper discovered his body in a room at the Quality Inn on Mississippi 63, Lynd said.

Moss Point Police Chief Brandon Ashley said no information on the death had been released yet because authorities were waiting to hear whether the death was a homicide.

“There was no obvious signs of trauma to the body,” Ashley said Friday.

An investigation is pending.
