Police hunt suspect in Gulfport man’s shooting death

Gulfport police are investigating the shooting death of a 23-year-old man on a motorcycle early Thursday morning, Lt. Jason Ducre’ said in a news release.

Police found Quincy Smothers, of Gulfport, dead of multiple gunshot wounds after responding to what was initially reported as a possible accident at Michigan Avenue and Monroe Street.

The 911 call came in at 1:17 a.m., the release said.

Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer said an autopsy is pending at the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Jackson next week.

The death is under investigation as a homicide.
