Coast man faces kidnapping charges after holding girlfriend, 2 kids captive, sheriff says
A Harrison County man was arrested Tuesday after assaulting his girlfriend and holding two of her children captive, Sheriff Troy Peterson said in a release.
Brandon Christopher Dawson, 22, of Gulfport, was taken into custody on one count of aggravated domestic violence and three counts of kidnapping.
Deputies made the arrest after responding to a domestic violence call at a home on Greenville Street near Canal Road.
Once there, deputies negotiated with Dawson for several hours before he released the children and his girlfriend from inside the home and surrendered.
Dawson’s girlfriend was taken to Garden Park Medical Center for treatment, and her two children were not harmed.
Dawson has been in and out of jail for years, according to the jail docket.
In addition to serving time for a previous domestic violence conviction, he’s been arrested or other felony drug charges and driving offenses.
Dawson is being held at the Harrison County jail on total bond of $500,000 set by Justice Court Judge Melvin Ray.
