One dead, five injured in Gulfport shooting

Gulfport police are investigating an early Sunday morning shooting that left one person dead.

Police said in a news release they were called to the area of South Carolina Avenue and Polk Street a few minutes before 1 a.m. Sunday in reference to a shooting.

Officers discovered multiple victims had been struck by gunfire.

Six victims were taken to local hospitals for treatment of injuries. One of the victims later died.

The deceased victim has been identified, but his name is being withheld until his family can be notified.

Details about what caused the shooting have not yet been released.
